I work as a Counsellor for the New Westminster School District, where I support a diverse number of students and families.
As a Clinical Counsellor, I assist adults seeking support in improving interpersonal relationships as well as addressing life challenges, stress, anxiety, depression, anger, and grief & loss. I specialize in therapy for youth and young adults where my 20+ years experience in teaching and counselling has helped grow my skills.
My clinical approach is rooted in Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy with the goal of improving your relationships and communication within the family structure by understanding how individuals cope with stress, emotions and perceptions and how these relate to your interpersonal relationships. My personal experience as a former Canadian National Team Soccer Player helps me to support athletes with motivation, goal setting, self-esteem building, mental fortitude and focus.
I’m a graduate of the City University of Seattle, Simon Fraser University and Capilano University. I’m a lifelong learner who has also recently trained in Level 1 Gottman Method Couples Therapy as well as the San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training. I work with many youth and young adults to identify core challenges they may be experiencing while co-developing new strategies to help fulfill their life goals.
Over the years, I’ve supported individuals with a variety of mental health needs and diverse learning challenges, assisting them to create positive self-concepts and to facilitate and maintain strong personal relationships. My caring and empathetic practice helps you to overcome your personal challenges by understanding your own personal beliefs, feelings, expectations and perceptions and how they relate to others through experiential self-awareness in the attempt to create a more harmonious self.

Ruth Patta RCC, 12107
Hello, I am Ruth. You are most welcome here.
I provide therapy to Couples, Family and Individuals. With over 12 years experience, I hold a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MA, MFT).
I believe in a collaborative and holistic approach to wellness which has its foundation in a bio-psycho-social-spiritual premise.
I also believe that people need to stay connected in supportive and purposeful relationships in order to effect change. Trained in family systems therapy, I work from the premise that when one member hurts, the whole system/family hurts.
I walk alongside my clients as we collaboratively unravel hidden possibilities and opportunities inherent in their struggles, challenges and pain. I do this by providing a warm nonjudgmental and safe therapeutic space for clients to explore change and growth.
I incorporate a wide range of approaches to meet the client at their points of need. These include Attachment Approaches, Brief-Solution-Focused orientation, CBT, Emotionally Focused Therapies (EFT), EMDR, Gottman and Satir Method.
